As a Northern Suburbs located club, Perth is one of three WA senior clubs (along with Metro & Southern Suburbs) that have ACF normal-rated tournaments on most weeks of the year. These tournaments consist of one game per week, played at slow time controls, for example 60 mins plus 30 secs per move for each player.
As such, these three clubs have most of the strongest regular players competing, and the games are played in a very quiet atmosphere with phones off. Less experienced players may find other clubs like Warwick and Swan Valley to be more suitable; please see our links page and the CAWA website for details.
In between the rated tournaments, we have ones with quicker time controls that have multiple games played per player each week. See the club calendar for details of tournaments this year, the results page for results of tournaments, and the ratings page which indicates the range of players.
Most rated games finish between 9pm & 10pm with the last games usually ending about 10.30pm. We also have a couple of tables set up for those that wish to play social games or to analyse with their opponent after their tournament game. The chess equipment and refreshments (tea, coffee & biscuits) are provided.
If you are only used to playing online or returning to play after a gap of many years, we hope that you consider coming along for some enjoyable games.
Please feel free to visit the club and play the odd casual game. For joining rated tournaments, see the calendar and note that entries are required by midday on the Sunday prior to the starting date.
